IPIA was created in 2004 by a group of interpreters who thought that it was time for the Interpreting profession to take its destiny in its own hands. Since then we have come a long way.

IPIA Is committed to the creation of a regulatory body ( Registration Board ) for the interpreting profession in Australia.

IPIA has become the biggest association of Interpreters in WA and the only association in Australia that has managed to make more than 120 Interpreters employees of the Health Department. In May 2008 through the efforts of the members of IPIA, Interpreting is remunerated in WA like all the other allied health professions.

Sadly two of our founding members are not any longer with us, but surely they are remembered fondly by all of us. Unfortunately we lost one more member to mental disease but we will be always thankful for all her help.
